The Volunteer Manitoba Awards are less than two weeks away! They are going to look a little different this year but make sure to tune into Facebook Live on November 18th to join in on celebrating volunteerism in Manitoba.
Today we are celebrating one volunteer, Michael Deslaurier!
Michael has been nominated for the 2020 Spark Outstanding Pro Bono Consultant Award for volunteering his accounting expertise.
Michael is a partner at the Exchange Group Chartered Professional Accountants. He became a Spark volunteer in 2019, and was matched with Can DO People Inc. to simplify and streamline the organization’s accounting and reporting system.
Can Do People provides a safe, rich environment for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, other intellectual disabilities or exceptional behaviors. They promote and foster growth of participants, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives and be contributing members of society.
Nominator Pascal Audette says Michael helped above and beyond – contributing his time, being flexible with scheduling, and making sure there were strong outcomes of the work he put in.
“ It has saved us lots of time in being able to complete our financial reporting requirements,” says Pascal.” It has been easier to communicate with the Board of Directors the information they need to know to make good decisions.
Michael also enlisted the support of his fellow co-worker, Dee Lee Coleman – who was more experienced with the accounting software Can Do People used. Dee Lee visited the office several times, helped set up Quickbooks and train staff to use it more effectively.
Congratulations on your nomination, Michael! Thank you for volunteering your expertise to an organization that enables individuals to lead happy and fulfilling lives.
