This workshop will explore what it means to ‘be the change we want to see in the world’ by connecting theories of social changes with our own experience of oppression, privilege, trauma, empowerment and freedom.
Based on Anne Bishop’s model for ‘becoming an ally,’ we will look at how we carry our sense of injustice personally and for the world. Exploring how our experience shapes the issues we face, and community/activist roles we take on, helps understand how we might be triggered in groups and challenging power dynamics. This understanding is necessary to developing tools to re-estabilish our equilibrium when we, and others, confront these issues in meetings and groups.
Perhaps one of the most important actions towards change we can take is to balance our inner healing work and our external work for peace, health, and justice in our communities and in the world.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn foundational concepts of Trauma-Informed Activism
- Learn tools and skills to navigate our experiences and triggers
