Thrive is an inner-city agency who supports the families in their neighbourhood through counselling services, a resource centre, a childcare centre and a thrift shop, which provides clothing and household goods as well as volunteer work experience. Thrive Community Support Circle is the new name for the organization which for many years was called Pregnancy and Family Support Services.
Like many small non-profits, Thrive has neither the scale nor the budget to keep I.T. specialists on staff. Thrive staff have made a valiant effort to maintain their 10 computers, shared by 22 staff at their four locations. However, there comes a time when trained professionals are required, and this is exactly the kind of capacity gap that Spark exists to solve! Thrive asked Spark to find them the right pro bono expertise to review their current I.T. system and implement solutions.
To take on this project, Spark brought in a trusted two-man team of I.T. professionals, Michael Ibrahim and Afam Obidigbo. They are working with Thrive’s E.D., Rhonda Elias-Penner, and E.A., Cynthia-Moon Weidl to move the organization to the cloud. In this case, the chosen solution is Google Apps for Nonprofits, which will give Thrive all of the features they’ve asked for, including file sharing, backup, updates and most importantly, a shared calendar system for their whole team.
In addition, with Thrive’s new name comes a new domain: thrivecommunitysupportcircle.com. Michael and Afam will be consolidating Thrive`s email address under one domain and one provider.
